October was a big month for KeyStone. We sang three public performances, all within the span of four days of one another! First, we had the honor of being the opening act for one of the true pioneers of modern vocal music, The Bobs. One of our favorite haunts, Melodies Cafe, happens to be one of The Bobs’ favorite places to play when they come through town. We were pretty excited when The Bobs added two of our requests to their set list. They dusted off “Helmet” and “My I’m Large” just for the occasion! In addition, they sang several songs off of their new album, Biographies, which we highly recommend you pick up. They ended the night with their tour de force cover of Cream’s “White Room”.
Then, two nights later, we were the headliners at an a cappella show at Hard Rock Cafe, Philadelphia, in the heart of Center City. Opening for us were 54th and City from St. Joseph’s University and The Penny Loafers from the University of Pennsylvania. 54th and City was fresh off their CD release party for their new EP Right on Red the night before. We appreciate both of these collegiate groups opening for us. The show at Hard Rock was produced by DCS Concerts, and we look forward to working with them again to bring more great a cappella to Philly.
Then, less than twenty-four hours later, KeyStone was the special surprise performance at a special surprise 50th birthday party! Performing for a crowd of about sixty enthusiastic party-goers, we capped off a busy week with a great 35-minute set. The birthday boy is a KeyStone fan, and his family had to invent a few reasons to keep him away from our two earlier shows. In the end, he got to see a performance up close and personal instead.
KeyStone Is Gearing Up for a Happening Holiday Season
With those performances behind us, KeyStone is spending the month of November in preparation for some holiday performances in December. We love holiday music, and we love our holiday repertoire even more. KeyStone fans will recognize some of our old favorites, plus we will be unveiling a few new arrangements as well.
KeyStone will be the special guest group for Do You Hear What I Hear?, a holiday concert series presented by A Cappella Pops. We’ll be at the Adler Theatre, located inside West Chester University’s Swope Music Building on Saturday, December 7th and at World Live Cafe at The Queen in Wilmington, Delaware, on Friday, December 13th.
